Muay Thai nowadays has become really popular among the girls; it first started with celebrities posting their pictures of them while training Muay Thai. So it’s become a trend in Thailand. Some of you might wonder, what’s difference between Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu? For me, personally, I did both of them but mostly Jiu Jitsu. I have to say that both of them are pretty tiring but the biggest difference would be Muay Thai can throw punches and usually keep the fight on while standing. On the other hand, Jiu Jitsu is focusing on the ground game. In Muay Thai, you either punch or kick with trainer or with a sandbag. But in Jiu Jitsu, you NEED a partner. Everytime I roll (free sparring) in BJJ class, before getting tapped out I feel like it was like a survival game.

I always feel like I’m in an actual fight and I have to fight for my life by using the techniques I’ve learned but it doesn’t always work so I just do whatever I can to survive. However, you can always tap (stop) in BJJ when it’s over limit or when you can no longer handle the pain.

This is how they tap people out in Jiu Jitsu

If you happened to have a sucky Muay Thai trainer then I feel so sorry for you because you can’t really switch your partner like in BJJ so you have to stick with the same trainer throughout the class.

Nevertheless, both martial arts are a good self-defense, nobody can really compare which is good or bad because it’s really depends on your preference. My suggestion is to try both and see which suits you the most or you could do both for example if you do MMA (Mixed Martial arts) class in which you are required to take both Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu classes. And please don’t forget to share your experiences after that!

Happy training everyone.
